So what is an OLED? Imagine a thin sheet of emissive electroluminescent material that illuminates and emits almost any color you can think of. It’s able to emit a wide range of the color spectrum, it’s energy efficient, cheap to produce (in the near future) and it can be made flexible and bendable! To take advantage of this new emerging technology, the Daybreak was born.
Daybreak is an innovative lighting application using OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) technology that dynamically supports your physical state throughout the day. People in offices are becoming more fatigued due to the lack of natural sun light. The concept the Daybreak is a desktop/office lighting appliance that gives support to the biological clock and control over the physical state of the user through light. To support this, recent studies have shown that blue light supports the production of cortisol (stress hormone) and red light the production of melatonin (sleep hormone).
The Daybreak is able to sense the physical state of the user using a thermal imager to register the user’s body posture, movement and temperature. Body posture and movement frequency are a good indicators of engagement and activity, while small changes in body temperature can be detected when a person is fatigued or stressed. The autonomous system inside the Daybreak is able to sense and process these data to dynamically adjust the light accordingly to the user.
