Guiding Lights

Fall 2007 || 8 weeks || Team Project || Design & Society || Eindhoven University of Technology

The concept Guiding Lights encourages elderly, who are afraid of getting lost, to “explore” new places in Eindhoven using the light concept Guiding Lights. The Guiding Lights consists of navigation boards and lampposts equipped with multiple colors. The user can easily pick a destination just by selecting the desired location and the walking speed. The colored lights that are attached to the lampposts will light up, in a set of 3-5 lampposts, and guide the user to its destination. The walking speed will be used to set up the pace of how fast the colored lights will move. The purpose of using different colors enables multiple users to make use of the system simultaneously. Each user will be assigned to a specific color to follow preventing confusion.
